(הערבי הזקן המתגורר בבית למרגלות התל ליד מבנה באר האנטילה ממשפחת עבד אל מהדי, זוכר את המשלחת ואת העובדים היהודים לדבריו שעבדה בחפירות)<br /> |LongDescription=התל אגב נוזכר בנדודי ויקטור גרן, נסקר גם על ידי המשלחת הבריטית, וגם בסקר החרום על ידי מזר, והוא נסקר פעמים על ידי הפרופסור אדם זרטל. בתל ממצאים למן התקופה הכלקוליתית והברונזה בקדומה והתיכונה אז הייתה העיר מבוצרת. מתקופת הברונזה המאוחרת נמצא קבר מפואר ועשיר בממצאים ובו שלדים רבים. הלאה בתקופת הברזל-1 כאשר בתקופת הברזל-3 (ממלכת ישראל) הייתה העיר מבוצרת היטב, היא חרבה במסעות המלכים האשורים במאה - 8 לספירה. בתקופה ההלניסטית שכן במקום ישוב קטן, כמו כן בפסגת התל שרידי מבנה גדול מימי הביניים. כיום ניתן לראות בדפנות התל סביב את הרצועה שהשאירה חפירת המשלחת האמריקאית, ועוד חפירות בדיקה שונות סביב.
